Photo Manipulation : Triceratops Treatment Procedure
Natural History Museum, Washington D.C.
I shot this photo with a Pentax ist-DS Digital SLR. Nothing very remarkable about it. Yet.
I used PhotoShop to isolate the head from the background. I used both the marquee and the eraser tools. Nothing too tricky, mostly just paying attention to detail.
I often just experiment around with different things and in doing so found that this old (seemingly worthless at the time) digital photo of rocks beneath the surface of the water at Hauser Lake in north Idaho added a very interesting texture and color. (The water image was modified using the BUZZ Pro filter to give it a sort of 'cut out' effect.)
I put the water picture on a layer above the isolated skull, used the Overlay blend mode with a fill opacity of 20% and the result was quite stunning. I was very pleased.
